Incumbent George Cardenas fails to Eliminate No. 1 Contender for 12th Ward
Jesse Iñiguez officially made the ballot for the Feb. 22, 2011 elections for alderman of the 12th ward.
Meritless and frivolous challenges by incumbent George Cardenas and fellow contender Alberto Bocanegra against Iñiguez were reversed and dismissed by the Chicago Board of Elections.
"The will of the voters prevailed! The incumbent and another challenger attempted to quash the will of my supporters before they even had a chance to vote for me,” said Iñiguez after he heard the news. “I congratulate the board on making the right decision and look forward to continuing my campaign for progress and prosperity."
Prominent community and advocacy organizations have recently labeled Iñiguez as the front runner in the election for alderman. Despite allegations from other candidates, Iñiguez is the only progressive candidate on the ballot.
